Focus group
Used for certain types of qualitative research. Information gathering in the form of a group discussion, focused on communication and interaction between participants.
The participants form a relatively homogeneous group (8 to 12 people) who are asked to comment on certain questions posed by the moderator. They are encouraged to respond to each other's points of view rather than waiting for the moderator to ask them questions in turn. This process facilitates the exploration and clarification of points of view, which would be more difficult to achieve in individual interviews.
