A clinical practice guideline states: 'What is the best possible care for this patient group, based on scientific evidence and practical experience?
The purpose of guidelines:
• To improve the quality of care
• To standardise care (avoid significant differences in treatment between healthcare providers)
• To support doctors in their decision-making
• To improve patient safety
